Shady's Movie Reveiw: World Trade Center

So for Labour day I decided to take in a movie. I wanted to goto the 3PM showing of World Trade Center, but instead I went to lunch at Pok-e-Joes at that time. Mmmmm, chicken and turkey special. So off to the 4PM showing I went. I didn't know how they would handle the events of the day, but it was all handled with class. There are a bunch of "that guy" actors in the film, so I was pleasently surprised. Making an appearence include Curtis as a Doctor and the Mike Novick, the President's Advisor from 24, playing a cop.
It did raise some questions for me, such as how did WTC 7 go down? I'm gonna have to check Wikipedia for that.
Also, every Labour day, Austin has a free day of yoga. I really wanted to take in a class at Yoga Vida, but the movie didn't finish until about 6:20. The class started at 6:30 so there was no hope that I would make it on time. So, instead, I did my daily Yoga Today program. I think I'd do the Abs episode workout some more. My abs were burning most of the way through. We'll see how I do tomorrow at the running class.

Baylor falls short vs TCU

This year I'm taping the pre-game and halftime show for BUGWB, which means I'm in the pressbox again. Actually, I am above the press box on the roof. That's not a place for someone who is afraid of heights. But it's really cool up there, especially watching all of the band formations appear before my eyes. For the most part, my band career was spent as a gear in a very large machine. But now, I can watch that machine in action. Now, there were some rough spots, but hey, its the first show of the year. Things happen, right? But I'm sure that it'll all get ironed out here pretty soon.
On to the football team. There are a lot of signs of greatness there. The first half was tip-top. Though my brain was still in Arena football mode for a bit, and I feared that TCU would try to run back a missed field goal. Then I realized there was no slack net to kick at. In the end, Bears fell 17-7 against the number 22 team in the country, but you could see there are special things going on. The defense looks really good, but I hope we can put up more points in the next 2 weeks. We shall see what happens. Have a happy Labour Day tomorrow!

Jim Norton Killed!

So, around 3PM, I hit the road, bound for Addison, TX. What was I going to do a few miles outside of Dallas the night before the Baylor football season opener? Go watch Little Jimmy Norton, of course. The show was great and I had a ton of fun. The waitstaff was OK and the valet was overwhelmed, but besides that, nothing would spoil my fun. Oh yea, there was also a 2 item minimum at the comedy club, so I had a coke and some chicken wings. To top it all off, I got a picture with Jimmy! The will be up on Flickr pretty soon. Sadly, I wasn't able to buy any Norton merchandise because, like always, I had no cash and Club Soda Kenny did not take credit cards. So, my plan is to print out the pic of me and Jimmy then have him autograph it and frame that bad boy.
Hopefully, Jimmy will get his tail down to Texas more often. If not, I'll go up to see him somewhere in the New York area sometime this winter. So, if you're never seen Jimmy live, I recommend it. I got back to Waco around 1AM and went to bed almost immediately. I needed my rest as the next day was going to be quiet action packed.

Shady's Movie Reveiw

I used to go to the movies all the time. I mean, I would see everything, even the crappy ones. But lately, I don't want to waste my evening watching something I know I'm not going to enjoy. So, when I saw the preview for the Illusionist, I was definitely interested. Except that when I got there, the movie I thought I was going to see wasn't the movie I saw. I confused The Illusionist starring Pig-Vomit and Jessica Beil (mmmmm) with The Prestige, starring Batman and Wolverine. Yea, two different magician movies. Oops. My Mistake.
But it was still a cool movie. Here is a non-spoiler synopsis:
Eisenheim (Edward Norton) is a stage magician who amazes the audiences of turn-of-the-century Vienna, drawing the attention of Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell). When the Prince's intended, Sophie von Teschen (Jessica Biel), assists the magician onstage, Eisenheim and Sophie recognize each other from their childhoods -- and a dormant love affair is rekindled. As the clandestine romance continues, Chief Inspector Uhl (Paul Giamatti) is charged by Leopold to expose Eisenheim, and Eisenheim prepares to execute his greatest illusion yet.
